Who would have thought my first step toward better spiritual wellness would be through a bad case of bronchitis? I certainly did not! Late last night I found myself tossing and turning, coughing and hacking, constantly blowing my nose, and quite unable to sleep. As the little numbers on my clock rounded on four in the morning, my mind started wandering deliriously...
I found myself in casual mental conversation...with God. There was no reciting of verbose prayers or creeds, just me thinking silent thoughts about my life. I told God about the goals I set in high level wellness along with other good things and anxieties from throughout my day. I asked for his help in reaching these goals and working through all my problems. Before I knew it I had drifted off to sleep.
I never thought the time I would be most motivated to pray would be when I was feeling so sick, but I really enjoyed the casualness of my silent "prayers". It reminded me not to suddenly force myself back into my faith, but to let it happen naturally. I woke up this morning with a smile on my face :)
Christine,
ReplyDeleteYou are exactly right by not forcing yourself back into faith, but letting it happen naturally. This will not be the first time you acquire such a busy lifestyle that faith is accidentally put on the back burner, but you have to constantly remind yourself that everything in your life is a blessing from God.
One thing you may want to try that helps me and some close friends of mine is to write a daily prayer, thanking God for all the blessings in your life and/or anything else you want to add that you want to constantly remind yourself of.
Keep up the great work and God will continue to lead you in the right direction.
Best wishes,
